here we go again with glucose monitors

Continuous Glucose Monitors for non-diabetics? Really? Because we all need to obsess over yet another thing in our lives. Like we don’t already have enough gadgets strapped to our bodies trying to convince us we’re some kind of malfunctioning robot that needs constant tweaking. Seriously, strapping on a sensor just to play this bizarre game of “let’s see what happens if I eat this” is about as fun as a root canal. The way some people talk about keeping their blood sugar lines flat, you’d think we’re all tightrope walkers performing at the circus. And don’t get me started on the so-called wellness gurus who jumped on this bandwagon faster than you can say “biohacker”.

So, we’ve added another layer of obsessive tracking to our increasingly busy lives. Can we talk about how exhausting this is? Whatever happened to enjoying a meal without dissecting every little impact it might have on our so-called metabolic health? Now, every bite is some kind of data point begging for analysis as if our bodies don’t have enough to deal with already. It’s like we’re trying to outsmart ourselves at every turn, but guess what? Constantly worrying about every blood sugar spike might just defeat the whole purpose. And for those who can’t get enough of this madness, they can read more about these obsessions in painful detail.

Do we really need one more reminder of how imperfect our bodies are? Let’s just keep adding stress until we collapse under our own unrealistic expectations. Because that’s healthy, right? Or maybe, just maybe, we could put down the gadgets and admit that sometimes a little ignorance really is bliss. But no, let’s keep pretending we’re engineers of our human bodies, transitioning seamlessly from one wellness fad to another. Whatever.
